UGH. That term annoys me haha. Tone = muscle. YOU want to gain muscle. But that word tends to scare women.
Muscle is STRENGTH and no you aren't going to bulk up like crazy. You're going to get beautiful definition while boosting your metabolism and lowering body fat. And it just feels amazing to lift some dang weights.
But listen up! Here are 4 common mistakes women tend to make...
4 Common Fitness Mistakes That Are Hindering Your Progress
1. You aren't eating enough/AKA you're dieting
Are you dieting? Are you cutting calories? Are you restricting food? You NEED food to support muscle mass. You cannot be in a calorie deficit if you want to be "toned". So stop the dieting. Stop cutting carbs. EAT CARBS. They aren't the devil. Listen to your body. Honor your hunger and you'll be surprised that you won't get "fat". You'll build beautiful muscle. 2. You are cardio queen
Are you doing cardio every day? Is cardio your ONLY workout... EVERY DAY? If you are only doing cardio, AND dieting, you are seriously breaking down any muscle mass you have. There is nothing wrong with cardio, but if you are doing it excessively, then you need to HOLD UP - take a step back and start integrating...
3. You aren't strength training
If you want to build muscle... or "tone", then you need to BUILD IT. That means strength training. It's not so scary. You aren't going to bulk up like cray. You are going to build beautiful, lean muscle. Don't know where to start? I can help you with that - let's make you a plan!
4. You aren't lifting heavy enough
THIS IS SO IMPORTANT. So, you decided to lift. You have some dumbbells, you're in the gym. But are you picking up the 3lbs, the 5lbs??? GIRL I KNOW YOU CAN LIFT HEAVIER THAN THAT! If you actually want to BUILD MUSCLE you need to challenge yourself. Generally you should go for 8-12 reps of an exercise and the last few reps should be challenging. If you can keep on going for like 20 reps, the weight is too light. You are seriously stronger than you think.
Real talk. The first pic was me when I was ONLY doing cardio and dieting/restricting. I had ZERO muscle mass and no energy. The second pic I weigh 15-20lbs HEAVIER yet I am more "toned". This is PROOF that you aren't going to get BULKY and FAT. You are going to get the progress and results that you probably wanted in the first place.
