Alright, let's get into my top tips for stepping into the gym!
Tips to overcome fear of the gym:
1. SHOW UP.
Just go. Honestly, get your booty into the gym. Just do it. If you keep thinking about it, but don't actually do it, you're literally getting no where. It seems so simple..because IT IS! JUST GO!
2. Ask for help.
Okay, now you're in the gym, but what do you do? How do you work the machines? WHAT THE HECK IS THAT MACHINE? OMG. Now is when you ASK and use resources to educate yourself. Set up a personal training session so you know HOW to do the exercises properly. A personal trainer will even set up a program for you! This is 100% worth the investment because you will gain confidence doing the exercises and walking into the gym with KNOWLEDGE.
3. Make a plan.
Every time you go to the gym, WRITE DOWN YOUR WORKOUT and bring it with you. This way you know exactly what you're doing, and you're not aimlessly walking around the gym wasting time. You get the job done. You feel confident in your plan and you leave feeling ACCOMPLISHED.
4. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Your first gym experience will be awkward. Your second will be weird. Your third, forth, fifth, etc. will STILL BE UNCOMFORTABLE. But you have to get over that to eventually just walk in naturally and with confidence. Who cares if you do something wrong, or drop something or whatever! Everyone does and everyone makes mistakes.
5. Focus on YOU.
No one is looking at you, and if they are take it as a compliment, they are probably like DAMNNNN GIRL. No one is judging you and most people, even guys probably have the same fear. So don’t worry about being judged, just do you and rock it. Complete your workout and leave. Remember your goal anyways, you are there for YOURSELF - to become better, stronger, happier, and healthier and it's bonus when you make friends in the gym! It can be a very positive and supportive community if you let it!
