Body image is how we see ourselves. It may not be a true reflection, but it's how our MIND perceives the way we look. It's so interesting because one day your body image can be so good and so positive and the very next day it can be the complete opposite.
I look at body image as a spectrum, as I explain in the video below.
What fascinates me the most is how OTHER life stressors alter my body image. When I am stressed with work, relationships, family life, or feel anxious in general, I tend to turn to my body. I ignore all the other negative emotions and turn to my body. Why? Probably because it is something I can control easier.
See, it always comes back to control. When I feel loss of control in other aspects of my life, I go to my body. So when I'm having a stressful day, I tend to be hard on myself and the way I look.
How do you overcome it? I'm not sure there is one direct answer, but the FIRST step is acknowledging WHY you are feeling this way.
Try and write down what negative emotions you are feeling. Is it loneliness? Sadness? Feeling like a failure? Uncertainty? etc. All negative emotions happen and they are OKAY. Allow yourself to FEEL. Let yourself be sad. But then think about ways to overcome it.
Do you feel like your body image fluctuates daily, or even hourly? What do you think causes it?
