Growing up the plan was to be a teacher - an elementary school teacher. So, I went to university and started my education to get me to that goal. I completed a 4 year degree, and then the summer before attending Teachers College I quit. I remember the exact moment. I was in my kitchen sitting at the table. I was crying my eyes out. I was so afraid to tell my parents that I wanted to decline my offer to Teachers College. That was always the plan. That is what they expected of me. I also felt like I was letting myself down. I'm the type of person who likes routine and control. Now what? But, there comes a point where you just need to listen to you gut and your heart. And it was telling me that being an elementary school teacher wouldn't let me reach my full potential. I want to have a career that I am extremely passionate about. I want to work in flow. I want it to mean something more.
So, I declined my offer to teachers college and boy, was that ever the hardest decision of my life. I started a 2 year Dietetics/Nutrition program from home. This was kind of my transition period. I knew I wanted to work in the health/fitness world, but I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do. I have a degree in Psychology and Sociology, so the combination of body image, eating disorders, self-love and of course my personal experience with that made me want to relate those things to health and fitness. But again, how do I get a job out of that??
Meanwhile, I was a mega-POPster. I did Blogilates workout videos on the daily, was an active member of the Blogilates community online and even sent Cassey multiple emails reaching out to her asking her for a JOB! I literally didn't even know what behind-the-scenes of Blogilates was like, and I had no idea what type of job I could do, but I knew I was meant to work for Blogilates. Cassey told me to hold out and wait until the POP Pilates trainings began to get certified to teach POP! EEEEEK! She told me this before it was announced publicly. I nearly died on the inside. There was no question - I was becoming POP certified. So in November of 2014 I traveled to New York and took the workshop. That was the first time I met Cassey and Sam! I wasn't sure how I'd react. Would I cry? Faint? Fan girl? I had no idea. But it honestly felt like I was meeting a friend I hadn't seen in a long time.
Fast forward to March of 2015, I attended a POP Pilates summit in San Diego. I was able to network with Cassey and truly express my drive to work for her company. That is where it all began. I started working on projects for her from home. Then in June, they flew me to LA for a few days to be in the first POP Pilates photo-shoot and officially hire me on the Blogifam team!!
I So what do I do?
I am the POP Pilates Social Media Coordinator (among many other things). I run campaigns for POP and help Cassey with special projects for Blogilates! I currently work from home so my hours are pretty flexible. It's a really unique job, but it's literally my dream job. No day is the same. It's fun, exciting and I get to help change peoples lives. That's the biggest reward.
How did I get here? This is something I NEVER imagined myself doing, but I just knew in my heart that my passion was with Blogilates. I mean, it changed my life and has a huge part in my heart. I wanted my work to align with my passion. There is no better feeling.
But let me tell you, trying to explain to people what I do is very difficult. Especially if they haven't heard of Blogilates ;)
I can't thank Cassey and Sam enough for letting me join the #Blogifam and letting me work for a company that I am so passionate about.
Teaching POP Pilates
Of course I still teach POP Pilates! And it's one of the greatest decisions of my life. That one hour where I get to teach a format that isn't just about fitness, but about making people SHINE and feel good. It's the best feeling. I leave every class feeling amazing because I know I made that one-hour special for my students.
I SERIOUSLY encourage you to become a POP instructor! The POP Army is like no other and you get so much support! If you want to become certified, register HERE.
I encourage you to take chances, follow your heart and your passion. You should live a life that inspires you. And that includes working a job that you are passionate and excited about! Of course, you may have to suffer through those awful jobs, and take school courses that you may not be excited about, but all those things will lead you in the right direction. You will learn what you're good at, where you need to improve, and you will struggle. But through all of that, you will find your purpose. Use the struggles as learning experiences. DO NOT GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAM JOB! (Or finding it!)
