If you don't know what PIIT28 is by now, then where have you been the past couple of months!?! But seriously, PIIT is the newest workout from Cassey Ho (@blogilates). It's a 28-minute workout that combines crazy cardio exercises with the best POP Pilates sculpting moves, so you become a fat-burning, muscle building machine. It's like legit workout magic...that you have to work really hard for. It's not easy, my friends. But it's kind of addicting in the "I love putting myself through workout torture" kind of way.
Even a fitness-POP Pilates junkie like me experiences an arrangement of thoughts that range from "OMG I'm never doing this workout again" to "WOW I am a warrior fitness princess. I can now take on the world" while doing a PIIT routine.
So, what are my exact thoughts during a PIIT28 workout? Let me break it down.
Stage 1: Excitement
This ranges anywhere from 24 to 12 hours before my PIIT workout. I am excited. I am going to KILL this workout. I am going to burn all the fat and build all the muscle. I can't wait. I will feel so powerful and have so much energy. I am a beast. I can't wait to do this.
Stage 2: Contemplation
Now we're getting closer to the time of the PIIT workout. Reality is starting to kick in. Shit, do I really want to put myself through this torture? Maybe I shouldn't do the workout? Yeah, I'll just do something else. Something easier. NO. You're doing it. You'll feel so much better. GOALS. Think about your goals.
Stage 3: Preparation
This is it. Less than an hour until my PIIT workout. There's no turning back now. Or is there? Nope. I'm doing it. Get my workout outfit ready. Get my yoga mat out. Grab my water bottle because I'm GOING to need that. This is it. I can do it. You are a beast. You are a PIIT warrior. Just do it. It will be over before you know it. Ugh.
Stage 4: The Workout
If you don't know, a PIIT workout consists of 7 exercises, each performed for 45 seconds, you rest 15 seconds between each move and do it a total of 4 rounds. So, the first round isn't too bad. You got this. You're not dying of sweat or pain yet. You're getting through it. But then it nears the end of the first round and it hits you that you have THREE rounds left. OMG, I can't do THREE more rounds of this torture.
Stage 4.1 Regret
I shouldn't have done this.
Stage 4.2 Motivation
But you keep going. Because you know you'd just be mad at yourself if you stop now. So, round two begins. You're tired. Those burpees feel like forever, those mountain climbers are death. OMG even the double leg lifts. I thought I had a strong core? Why is 45 seconds so long? Why is 15 seconds so short?
A miracle happened. You made it through the second round. Now for round three. Okay I'm halfway done. I can do what I just did one more time. I got this.
Stage 4.3 Beast Mode
It's round three. It's like something overcame you. You turned into this PIIT workout beast (but don't worry, you're still a princess). Maybe it's the endorphin's, maybe it's your motivation, maybe you're just strong. But you just KILLED that third round.
Round four. THIS IS IT! All you have to do is each move one more time. That's all. Don't think about it. Just do it. You're so close. The last round isn't easy. Your body probably hates you by now, but in some kind of sick and twisted way, you're happy.
I might even be laughing during the fourth round. Why am I laughing? I have no idea. Probably because what kind of crazy person does this kind of crazy workout? What kind of crazy person CREATES this crazy workout. Cassey Ho does.
Stage 5: PIIT Warrior Princess
Done. Completed. Finished. Killed the workout. Drenched in sweat. Heart is racing. Water. Where's the water? Give me all the water? Wow, I didn't know I could smell this bad. WTF did I just do? OMG I actually finished it all?
Post-PIIT you definitely feel a sense of relief. Thank GOD that's done. But, you also feel happier. Because through all those thoughts of doubt, and serious contemplation of not even doing the workout ... you did it. And you KILLED it. See, PIIT isn't just about burning fat and building muscle. It's about doing something challenging. Something that you thought you wouldn't be able to do. And you know what happens then? You build MENTAL strength. Because that now reflects on your entire day, and your entire life. It helps motivate you in all aspects of your life, not just your workouts.
